The Role of Elder
"The elders will earnestly pray for the congregation, its pastor and its individual members. Working together as a group and not as individuals, the elders will assist the pastor in planning worship services and other activities and programs which will strengthen the spiritual life of the congregation as a whole as well as its individual members"
Constitution and Bylaws of Faith Lutheran-Moorpark
The role of elder is an important part of any congregation. They are the faithful leaders who care for the spiritual life of the congregation. The elders are committed to the well-being of the church, its pastor and you, the member. Elders regularly receive God's Word and Sacrament and adhere to our confession of faith. Therefore, in this faith, they are equipped to serve as beacons of light for our congregation and community.
Honestly, the elders at Faith are fantastic. They have assisted me in so many different ways but most importantly, they are faithful models of prayer and encouragement. They are trustworthy and faithful men who have been a wonderful support in ministry, and for the well-being for me my family. Dave Anderson, Dave Bovey, Jeff Mark and Anthony Payne are not only humble, but faithful servants of Christ who are eager to serve as your elders. They are a great group and I am so thankful for each and every one of them.
Month after month, I have learned much about them, and I am confident that each and every elder will do a faithful job according to the word of God. They are blessing to all of us as they hold "to the mystery of the faith with a clear conscience... and also [having] great confidence in the faith that is in Christ Jesus" [1Tm3:9,13]. For the sake of Christ's church, the Elders fill a very important role as they continue to care for every member at Faith. They are here for you! I am very excited to see how the Lord will work through our elders as this will be a benefit for each and every one of you. And when you see them, make sure to say "Hello!" They would love to get to know you better and see how you are doing. I pray that God may continue to lead Faith Lutheran in the love of Christ that has set us free!
Below, you will find the Elder assignments for the foreseeable future.
Also, in next month's newsletter, you will see a section titled "Meet the Elders". Be on the lookout as you will get to know your elder even more.
Have a blessed February!
