The Attack on the Bible!
Over the past few months I have noticed a very alarming trend, everyone in the world is reading the Bible! "Wait a minute," you may be saying, "how is that an alarming trend? Don't we want everyone to be reading their Bible?" To answer this question as vaguely as possible, I will say, "yes and no."
We certainly want people to be reading their Bibles, after all, there is power in the Word of God. In this book, God reveals himself to us. He demonstrates his love for us by revealing the story of our salvation on its pages. It is through this book that we know about Jesus and his saving work for us. Why wouldn't we want everyone to be reading this book?
Well, the problem is, people are reading this book with bad intentions. They are trying to tell us that the Bible is not about the world-saving activity of Jesus Christ, but it is a book of myths and stories that really don't mean too much to us today. There are some good morals in the Bible, but that is about it, they would have you believe. The world is getting its dirty hands all over God's precious Word and trying to steal it away from Christians.
This beaing said, I think it is critical that we all as members of the Christian church take time to study our Bibles. It is criticial that we come to church, be in Bible study, and have personal devotions so that we are not led astray by the onslaught of anti-Christian Bible teaching. We must ground ourselves in the Word so that we are not blown about by every wind of teaching (Ephesians 4:14) that comes our way!
Here at Faith we have a number of opportunities for you to get involved with Bible study. On Sunday morning (9:15am) we are carefully and thoughtfully making our way through the Gospel of John, where we are learning quite clearly what it means to be living in the light of Christ amidst the darkness in this world. Also, on Wednesdays (10:30am and 7:00pm) we are studying the book of Galatians where we are finding that our lives are grounded in the saving work of Christ and our whole hope lies in that saving work! Studies like these, where we take God at his Word, are incredibly helpful for us as we face the attacks of the world on the Scripture. Please prayerfully consider joining us at these studies!
