The Five Words
2 Timothy 4:2-5
“Preach the word; be ready in season and out of season; reprove, rebuke, and exhort, with complete patience and teaching. For the time is coming when people will not endure sound teaching, but having itching ears they will accumulate for themselves teachers to suit their own passions, and will turn away from listening to the truth and wander off into myths. As for you, always be sober-minded, endure suffering, do the work of an evangelist, fulfill your ministry”.
If we believe that the Word is true [Jn 8:32], we very well know that it shall stand even through the trying times that we face. “The grass withers, the flowers fade but the Word of God stands forever [Is40:8]. In the midst of the pandemic and social unrest, many minds wonder, “when will this end?” Uncertainty continues to loom as it weaves within the plight of humanity.
A trying time it truly is. Magnified in isolation, we face many challenges ahead of us. In waiting, the itching ears become itchier, impatience surrounds the surface. Worry and anxiety continue to pile up, and we begin to wonder how to proceed. Trust me, the devil has the megaphone ready as he attacks with the deceptive whispers of disbelief. So deceptive he is that we are at a loss for words and thus we may ask, “Are we all alone in this?” In times of uncertainty, I am always reminded of Ezekiel 37 and the valley of dry bones. Lost in exile and in need of restoration, Israel was hopeless and discouraged. What were they to do?
The Lord asks Ezekiel, “can these bones live?”
Dry and dead, no hope it seemed for these lifeless bones, yet Ezekiel responds with five words. “Oh Lord God, You know”
Commanded by the Lord, Ezekiel prophesied over the dead bones and said, “Oh dry bones, hear the word of the Lord”.
By the word of God, these bones lived!
And we do too! For I know the spiritual battle is before us, yet the Word is true. Through the death and resurrection of our Lord, we stand victorious in Christ as His truth has set us free. So take comfort and pray that the Lord may grant you the continued faith to endure. For He is our true Father and we are His true children! What a wonderful truth this is as we live under the promise of Christ and in Him crucified! And though we face much in this world today, we are not alone, “Behold I am always with you until the end of the age” [Mt29:20]
As we continue in the life of faith, I encourage you to be in the word. For the Word points us to Christ and the comfort that He gives. In the midst of our world today, how important it is to be in the truth of God’s Word. For when we are in the Word, there we find ourselves echoing Ezekiel’s five words, “Oh Lord God, You know”.
I encourage you to follow along in our services on Wednesday and Sunday along with our daily devotions [Tues-Saturday], and our Wednesday bible study on the book of Galatians. It is in the Word that we find ourselves saying, “Oh Lord God, you know”. Indeed, Thy will be done!
In Christ,
